Diagnosis of heavy monthly bleeding
Depending on your symptoms, your healthcare professional may want to conduct certain
diagnostic tests. Tests that may be used to diagnose the
cause of Heavy Monthly Bleeding include:
- Transvaginal ultrasound – Your healthcare professional inserts a wand-like device
into your vagina, which emits sound waves to create a picture of your reproductive
organs.
- Hysteroscopy – Through your vagina, your healthcare professional inserts a thin
lighted tube with a camera at the end, which allows him or her to view the inside
of your uterus.
- Sonohysterography – Your healthcare professional inserts a tube through your vagina
in order to fill your uterus with fluid, which allows ultrasound images to be made
of your uterus.
- Endometrial biopsy – Your healthcare professional removes a small piece of tissue
from the lining of your uterus through a thin tube that is inserted through your
vagina. This tissue is then sent to a lab to be examined under a microscope.
- Dilation and curettage (D&C) – Your healthcare professional passes instruments
through your vagina to scrape or suction tissue from the lining of your uterus.
This tissue is then sent to a lab to be examined under a microscope.
